下茆镇是广东省肇庆市四会市的一个镇，位于市境中部，据维基百科所列，镇辖15个社区和村[2]；北面与江谷镇、地豆镇相邻，东面是黄田镇和石狗镇，西面是龙甫镇和迳口镇[1]。镇域面积约107平方千米，距四会市区约10公里，下辖2个社区、13个行政村[1][3][4]。2019年末户籍人口33882人[1]。1987年由区改镇，2002年原龙湾镇并入[1][3][5]。

历史沿革[edit]

新中国成立之初的1949年12月，辖地分设上茆、下茆两乡，归第四区；1952年2月划成包括下茆在内的5个乡，纳入广四县第九区；1954年7月起转属四会县第五区[1][3]。1957年7月，两乡合并；1958年1月，又合成单一的下茆乡，9月编入江谷人民公社[3]。1961年4月，江谷公社析出下茆，另立下茆公社；1983年8月公社改区，1987年3月区再改镇[1][3]。

龙湾原有自己的镇建制：1988年10月起，龙湾居委会隶龙湾镇；2001年6月，居委会易名为社区居委会。至2002年4月，龙湾镇撤销，辖地并给下茆镇，龙湾的社区、村以及江明村由此划归下茆镇[5]。

地名由来[edit]

民间相传，古时牛牯岗脚搭有一座茅棚，供过往行人歇脚避雨，以此为界，上方叫上茅，下方叫下茅；“茅”与“茆”相通，后写作下茆[3]。

地理环境[edit]

下茆镇属丘陵地带，东距佛山市中心约60公里，西距肇庆市中心约50公里，北距清远市中心约40公里，离广州约84公里；绥江水路可通肇庆、梧州、广州等地[4]。百度百科所记面积为107平方千米，博雅地名网为107.5平方千米[1][3]。

人口民族[edit]

据百度百科，2019年末全镇户籍人口33882人[1]；博雅地名网转载的旧概况称总人口31748人、8454户，农业人口占30154人[4]。第七次全国人口普查的结果为2.05万人，在四会市各街道乡镇中居第6位[3]。两处数字统计口径不同，此处并列。

经济[edit]

旧概况记载，镇耕地35234亩，水田占20001亩，养鱼的塘面15436亩；2005年的社会总产值为7.16亿元左右，其中工业5.45亿元左右，农业不到0.7亿元[4]。工业集中在三处园区，即下茆工业园、龙湾福龙工业园与龙湾陶瓷工业城，农业则采用猪、鱼、鸭结合的立体养殖[4]。排名上，2025年9月公布的全国千强镇榜单中位列第952名；2025年5月又被列入「广东省“百千万工程”第二批专业镇」建设名单[3]。
