1962年组建生产队，1983年建乡，1987年改称村民委员会，1989年改设管理区办事处，1999年起复称村民委员会，沿用至今。[1]

村内有五条垌（山间平地），故名五垌。[2]

五垌村年平均气温21.3摄氏度，年降雨量约1477至1985毫米，属南亚热带季风气候。[1]

村里种植的主要经济作物是粉蕉、柑橘；特色收入来源有毛竹、柑橘。据同一网站所载，上一年全村农村经济总收入1071万元。[1]
