新宝镇是广东省茂名市信宜市东部的一个镇，东邻思贺镇，南接阳春市，西连合水镇，北与平塘镇和罗定市相邻，区域面积184.49平方千米。[1]镇政府驻新宝圩一带，下辖1个社区和16个行政村；镇域地处信宜、阳春、罗定三地交界处，山地多，是信宜市的重点林区之一。[1][2]镇名由明末所筑的城堡「新堡」演变而来，1993年改称新宝。[1][3]

历史沿革[edit]

明代万历三年（1575年），这一带归信宜县定康都。两年后改隶西宁县，直到清乾隆二十一年（1756年）才划回，乾隆二十二年（1757年）重归信宜县。[4]

1889年（清光绪十五年）为信宜县白龙堡美溪甲，1932年起设美溪乡，1940年改属信宜县四区的白龙南乡。[4]1952年12月，境域分属十四区、十五区各一部分；1957年撤区并乡，分设新堡、大坝两乡。[4]

1958年秋并入合水公社，1961年成为合水区下的新堡、大坝两个公社，1963年冬撤区并社后合并为新堡公社。[4]此后建置依次为：1983年新堡区，1987年新堡乡，1990年新堡镇；1993年6月，新堡镇更名新宝镇。[1][4]据百度百科，至2021年10月全镇领有1个社区和16个行政村。[1]

地名由来[edit]

相传明末盗贼四起，新宝圩附近的富户联手修筑城堡防贼，起初称白龙堡，经商议后改称「新堡」，镇名由此而来；1993年经广东省人民政府批准改称新宝，据说取「新堡生新宝」之意。[5]

地理环境[edit]

全镇位于信宜、阳春、罗定三县（市）交界处，属亚热带季风气候。[1][2]博雅地名网转载的镇概况说，镇内山地约21万亩，林木蓄积量在信宜市排第一；已知矿产包括金、铜、铁、铅、锌、水晶和石英石，另有储量可观的花岗岩。[2][3]

截至2019年末，全镇户籍人口为52984人。[1]博雅地名网另载，据第七次全国人口普查（2021年6月公布），新宝镇的人口为2.27万人，在信宜市各街道乡镇中居第19位，辖区面积居第3位。[2]前者是户籍人口，后者出自人口普查，口径不同。

2019年，镇内有工业企业40个，其中规模以上企业5个；营业面积在50平方米以上的综合商店或超市有15个。[1]

同一份概况称，河流水能蕴藏量约2.2万千瓦，已建16座小水电站，包括新宝、华峰、甘利、石垌、马沙、朝阳、半河、大坝、白龙诸站，合计装机约1.3万千瓦，甘利站是茂名市镇级电站中最大的一座；省道罗水线从镇内穿过。[3]概况未注明统计年份。

按博雅地名网所载各村数据（未注年份），人口最多的是石垌村（5238人）、上峰村（5216人）和新宝村（4613人），面积最大的是上云村（20.4平方千米）、石垌村（18.1平方千米）和上峰村（15.7平方千米）。[2]各村的农业以粉蕉、柑橘、三华李、木薯、香榄等为主，不少村还有小水电站；桂垌村在2020年8月入选首批广东省「一村一品、一镇一业」专业村名单（益智），上峰村在2019年12月被列入第二批国家森林乡村。[2]

村名的来历，据博雅地名网整理的「新宝镇各村社区地名由来」：白龙村因白龙河畔升腾的白色雾柱得名，枫木村得名于旧时的枫木林，沙底村因土质底层多沙，五垌村因村内有五条垌，上云村因云雾常笼罩，大坝村因河上曾筑拦水坝。[5]
