新塘村位于临城镇西部，离县城约10公里，汀江河沿村而过。村名取自新兴坝与猫子塘两处各一字。[1][3]

村民以种植水稻为主，属于纯农业村，年轻人外出务工较多，村集体经济薄弱。[3]

人口与经济[edit]

党员37名，低保户16户65人；全村356户，共1630人，分为5个自然村、17个村民小组。耕地1272亩，山林1.25万亩。[3]

历史沿革[edit]

民国时此地属三益乡中心保，解放初属旧县区三益乡。1953年设新塘村，隶附城区玉女乡；1954年改称新塘乡，1955年先建初级社，1956年转为高级社。[2]

1957年冬区乡调整后归城郊乡，1958年改行人民公社体制，隶属城郊公社，1961年体制划小，单设城郊公社新塘大队。1984年起为城郊乡下属村，1986年改属临城乡，1993年称临城镇新塘村民委员会。[2]

文化[edit]

2021年11月，省爱卫办命名新塘村为「2021年福建省卫生村」；2021年2月，村入选「福建省2018-2020年度省级文明村镇社区」名单。[1]
