新塘社区是福建省泉州市鲤城区常泰街道下辖的社区，位于街道北部，是街道的第二大社区。社区西面与仙塘社区交界，南邻上村社区，北面与南安市霞美镇相接。[1]

名称由来[edit]

社区名取自所在的新塘边村。博雅地名网说明，这里原属仙塘大队，后来拆出另建一个大队，故名。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

新塘原属南安县丰州区，1958年划归泉州江南公社，并入华星联社。1962年与仙塘大队拆开，另立新塘大队。1984年改为村委会，2003年改为居委会。[1][2]

人口与面积[edit]

社区占地1.68平方千米，有人口2306人（2012年社区概况）。[1][4]

社区名人[edit]

社区名人吴纪西，1936年参加马来亚共产党，1941年加入新四军，任一师一团作战参谋。之后他在解放军坦克部队任参谋、营长，1958年任坦克三师参谋长，授大校军衔，1979年离休。[1][3]

产业[edit]

社区自1968年起开始生产汽车零配件，此后陆续发展出汽车配件、工矿机械配件和铸件的加工小厂。[1]

荣誉[edit]

1991年，新塘村被福建省委、省人民政府授予明星村称号；1993年获市级文明村称号，2000年，市政府授予其小康村名号；2002年又获宽裕型文明村称号。[1][3]
