历史沿革[edit]
明嘉靖年间归金锡都管，到清雍正九年（1731年）成为该都的湖田约；1914年至解放初属第五区；1952年改称新湖乡，1958年设新湖大队，1988年为新湖管理区办事处，1998年改称新湖村民委员会。[2]民国初年建的湖田古刹，在革命战争时期曾是革命者的藏身处。[2]（博雅地名网简表则写作1999年设村委会。[1]）
人口与经济[edit]
村下辖七个村民小组（半寨、三联、红山、定家声、东加冲、桂青、湖田），1100户、5326人。耕地1990亩，其中水田940亩，旱地1050亩，种水稻、番薯、花生，水果有荔枝、龙眼、芒果和香蕉。[2]
2000年10月，市里在新湖村设立工业园区，后来引进近20家企业，包括食品、针织、海产品加工、制鞋和电子等厂。村距市区约4公里，海汕公路、汕遮公路和厦深铁路经过村境，各自然村铺有5.5公里水泥路。[2]
荣誉[edit]
2021年12月获评广东省卫生村。[1]
