历史沿革[edit]
此地宋代曾为梅州府衙。此地1949年划归城内区，1958年人民公社化，编入梅城卫星人民公社（后称梅城人民公社）。1975年起隶梅州镇，1978年12月梅州镇脱离梅县，社区所在随之归梅州市（县级）西区办事处。1987年4月撤区并小乡、改设乡镇，归黄塘办事处；1988年3月梅江区成立，仍属其黄塘办事处；1989年该办事处易名城西办事处，社区也随之改属。[1]
地名由来[edit]
宋代以前，这里有一座供打更用的楼房，居民住在它的下方，所以叫更楼下。[1]
荣誉[edit]
居委会党支部在2005年和2006年连续两年被梅江区评为先进基层党支部；2008年社区得「梅江区文明社区」称号；2009年，社区获广东省「六好平安和谐社区」，街道办事处也表扬了党支部。[1]
