里元村在鹤山市共和镇东北部，距镇区6.3公里，总面积11.4平方千米，由原里村、桔元两个村委会于2004年合并而成，各取一字得名「里元」。^[1]

历史沿革[edit]

清代属新化都，民国属第三区里村乡；1958年为共和公社里村大队和桔园大队，1983年称里园乡，1986年起分设里村、桔园两个管理区，1998年改为两个村委会，2004年合并为里元村民委员会。^[1]

村东侧有佛开高速公路，南来路接325国道，向南可达江鹤公路。14条自然村为：红山、杉山、桔元、虎头、会龙、合咀、福山、大合，以及按序数编号的六个村。^[1]

2008年的人口为1839人，另有1300位华侨和港澳同胞；林地11100亩，耕地832亩，鱼塘1060亩，主要种水稻，兼种花生、瓜菜、粉葛、水果并养鱼；人均收入6909元，全村经济总收入合计10140万元。^[1]

2017年10月里元村获第一批广东省卫生村称号，2019年9月列入2018年广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单。^[1]
