历史沿革[edit]
南宋咸淳二年（1266年），李姓先祖自陇西迁南雄珠玑巷，再迁到本县禄洞南头村，后人繁衍，分出一支来此定居。[1] 地名资料称，村大半处在山谷之中，原本较贫困，取「苦尽甘来」之意而名甘棠。[1] 1983年称甘棠乡，1986年称甘棠管理区，1998年起为甘棠村民委员会。[1]
经济[edit]
2002年人口1010人，耕地80公顷、林地667公顷。过去以水稻为主，改革开放后引进外资，种植花卉苗木以及龙眼、荔枝、芒果，建成面积3750亩的桃源甘棠苗木基地；村内有鸡苗孵化场等私营企业。[1] 此外有华侨及港澳同胞500人，设小学和卫生站各1所。[1] 2024年3月，获2023年度广东省卫生村的命名。[1] 《桃源镇总体规划》把甘棠列为以旅游为主要职能的村。[2]
