历史沿革[edit]
清乾隆年间（1736年至1795年），翁、朱、鲁等姓先祖从良德冲、洋美等地迁来，分立新前、马驷、单排三个村[1]。此后长期归良德冲乡（管理区、大队）管辖，直到1978年才独立成新马单大队[1]。
地理环境[edit]
村有耕地1900亩，山林1800亩；四面环水，设有三个横水渡口[1]。2004年村主干道完成硬底化，2005年谷山头横水渡汽车码头通车[1]。新马单大桥于2025年3月28日试通车，村子不必再靠渡口与外界往来[2]。
经济[edit]
村民以种植、养殖为主[1]。2009年，江门市新马单农业资源发展公司进入，以土地有偿流转的方式增加集体收入；近年村里还引入了魔幻谷和魔术庄园项目[2]。
荣誉[edit]
2019年9月，新马单村列入2018年广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单[1]。
