临步村在新会区三江镇东北面，靠近睦洲镇，位于江门大道旁，由临潮、步头两个自然村组成，共6个村民小组，村总面积约1550亩^[1]^[2]。村名各取两个自然村名的首字^[1]。

历史沿革[edit]

相传明景泰年间（1450年至1456年），钟、陈、林等姓的先祖从罗坑等地来此立村，分东西两村，称临潮和步头^[1]。明清时属「下烟」，清康熙县志有下烟村的记载^[1]。20世纪50年代，这里先后隶属良德冲乡、八堡乡和良德冲管理区，到1959年分设临潮、步头两个大队^[1]。

全村总人口1450人，413户^[1]。

村民以农业和养殖为主，外出务工为辅^[1]。主要产业有新会柑种植和塘鱼、虾类养殖^[2]。临潮米酒有五十多年的酿造历史，其酿制技艺于2022年列入江门市级非物质文化遗产项目^[1]^[2]。2025年1月，村里第二经济合作社参与的集体建设用地入市项目是新会区首宗「工改+入市」项目^[3]。

村里自2005年起创建文明卫生村，先后获2021年和2023年度的广东省卫生村称号（分别为2021年12月和2024年3月公布），并于2026年1月入选广东省第二批「百千万工程」典型村^[1]。2020年获评「江门市宜居村庄」^[2]。
