村周围鱼塘多，地势平坦，“平”谐音写作“坪”，故名坪塘。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
坪塘在1955年成立初级社，次年并入高级社，1961年转为大队，1983年实行政社分设，改称乡，1988年转为管理区，1998年12月管理区改制，设坪塘村委会。[1]
经济[edit]
山林1270亩、耕地2988亩，以黄烟为主，兼种水稻、花生、辣椒。[1]
