水背村是马头镇辖下的行政村，在新丰县东北部[1]。据博雅地名网所载沿革，1953年设乡，1958年改称大队，1984年改设乡政府，1990年成为管理区，1998年起为村民委员会，沿用至今[1]。2021年9月，广东省农业农村厅公布的第二批「一村一品、一镇一业」专业村名单中，水背村以红薯入选[1]。水背村名列2019年9月公布的2018年「广东省“民主法治示范村（社区）”创建单位」名单[1]。
