明经村在番禺区化龙镇中部丘陵地带，面积约5平方千米，总人口3280多人。村名来自元代胡氏先人「明颂经典」的故事。陈树人是岭南画派创始人之一，迁居广州市区前长期住在这里。^[1]^[2]

历史沿革[edit]

元代中叶，胡氏在此定居，终日诵读经典，村名改作「明经」。^[1]另一说是胡氏先祖元代由河南迁到黄猄巷建村，到乾隆年间因垦荒、围海造田，零散的聚居点才连成一个村。^[1]1949年设乡公所；1960年为明经公社，隶化龙；1964年改大队；1987年成立村民委员会。^[1]

村里引进了内资、外资工厂；农业则以养鱼、种花为主。^[1]2019年9月，明经村列入2018年广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单。^[1]

陈树人迁居广州市区之前长期住在明经村，代表作《岭南春色》以故居木棉树为原型。2021年8月，化龙镇在其故居所在地建成陈树人、陈复故乡园，园内立有陈树人、陈复父子雕像，现为番禺区爱国主义教育基地。^[2]
