上塘村位于普宁市区东北5.3公里处，全村1920多户，人口1.1万多人（博雅地名网）。村子由新村、老村、归湖、官崎、白马、湖心洋6个自然村组成，聚落呈块状分布。[1]

村子主产水稻、甘薯和蔬菜，约七成劳动力从事第二、三产业，主要是服装生产、利器加工和建筑业。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1949年前称上塘六乡，1950年初属普宁二区塘湖乡。1958年初设立上塘大队，1959年一度编为东华十一团，次年恢复为上塘大队；1972年改设上塘乡，1987年设上塘村委会，1999年起定名为上塘村民委员会，沿用至今。[1]
