S256省道把辖区分为东、西两部分。广深高速、东莞大道与西环路的出入口都在这一带，社区因而有厚街「北大门」之称。[1]

社区近年引进大型企业，发展商贸经济，建设了赤岭商贸城，并向外宣传本地的投资环境。[1]
