东方社区位于虎门镇中心城区，是一个以居民为主的社区，前身为太平镇一带的居民区，2005年才定名为东方社区居委会。[2]

外来租住人口有3108人，与之相对，登记在册的户籍居民为8645人，统计时间为2024年。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

此地在1949年归东莞县太平市管辖，后来太平市改设太平镇。居民委员会于1953年组建，归太平镇辖。1966年，这里一度叫作东方红区办事处，仍在太平镇人民公社之下。[2]

到1986年，这里成为东方居民管理委员会，其中一部分住户改由虎门寨居委会管理，行政上仍属虎门镇。1999年改设为东方居民委员会，直接隶属虎门镇。[2]

地理与经济[edit]

区内有太平福音堂、太平水厂等景点和建筑，附近的鸦片战争博物馆也是虎门的重要游览点。[3]

社区设四个居民工作站和一个老人活动中心。受地形所限，人口稠密，街巷窄小，没有土地资源，集体经济也没有企业，社区经济较为薄弱。[3]
