据博雅地名网，村在石马镇东部，居「上」，故称马上。[1]晚近的一次变更是1999年改称马上村委会；此前依次为1986年后为马上管理区，1963至1986年称马上乡，1950至1957年为马上大队，1949年为马上村农会。[1]
