梅林镇在广东省梅州市五华县南部山区，处琴江河上游，邻接揭西县，据镇政府介绍离县城约50公里。镇下设1个社区和18个行政村，镇政府设在兴梅北路。[1][2][7]相传明朝初年这里杨梅成林，镇名由此而来；这里也是革命家古大存的故乡。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

这一带早先叫梅林约。民国二十六年（1937年）起设梅林乡；新中国成立后几经改易，先是1950年设区，1957年设乡，1958年9月办人民公社，1983年11月再设区，到1986年11月才建镇。[1]各村的名称和隶属，则多在1949年称乡、1958年改大队、1999年定为村民委员会。[3]

博雅地名网记载的镇名来历是：明初此处杨梅遍地成林，因此叫梅林。[1]

镇境在五华县南部，琴江河流经两岸，据镇政府介绍全镇总面积128平方千米，山地约14.5万亩，耕地约2.1万亩；博雅地名网另记辖区面积约135.85平方千米。[1][2]镇政府称境内已探明的矿产主要有稀土、钨、瓷土和石英石。[2]省道120线在境内长约12公里，镇到村的道路约72公里已硬底化。[2]

镇政府的介绍称全镇有7615户、4万5千多人。[2]第七次全国人口普查时人口约3.41万，在五华县各乡镇中居第12位。[1]

经济[edit]

据同一介绍，当地宜种蔬菜、南药、花卉、青梅、板栗、柚子和柑橘。镇政府介绍说，早熟蜜柚、萝卜、青梅等的种植面积在5000亩以上，另有铸钢、米面制品、陶瓷、牙签、珠宝和草席等民营企业，境内大小水电站9座。[2]

文化[edit]

博雅地名网在梅林镇名下列了采茶戏、竹马舞、锣花舞、下坝迎灯以及长乐烧酒的酿制技艺等民俗，这些项目属于全县，未必都出自梅林。[1]2021年1月，梅林镇获「2020年度广东省卫生城镇」称号。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

古大存故居在优河村优行径，建于清嘉庆年间，原名金山翠秀。原有三栋二横，正屋21间，左横屋13间，右横屋24间，总建筑面积约800平方米，坐西北向东南。故居先后三次遭焚，今只留下左横屋，面积约222平方米，辟有六个展厅，展出古大存石雕像和与他革命活动有关的文物、照片一百多件。[4][5]保护级别逐级提高：1984年成为五华县文物保护单位；2014年1月13日，梅州市政府将它列入第二批市级文物保护单位；2022年7月23日，广东省政府又将它列入「第十批广东省文物保护单位」。[4][5]

著名人物[edit]

古大存（1897年—1966年）出生在优河村。他年轻时入读广东公立法政专门学校，1924年入党并参加东征，后来参与开辟东江革命根据地、组建东江红军，担任过红十一军军长；建国后做过广东省人民政府副主席和副省长。[6]
