湖田村位于华城镇南部、潭下河下游，是镇内人口较多的村之一；2026年1月获评广东省第二批「百千万工程」典型村。[1]

地名由来[edit]

据博雅地名网所载，村名有两说：一说此地原为胡、田两姓聚居，本名「胡田」；一说村处潭下河下游，湖泊、沙丘很多，田地多为河水冲刷淤积而成，故名湖田。[1]

沿革[edit]

宋熙宁四年（1071年）长乐置县，高厢、都湖田属一厢地；明嘉靖二十一年（1542年），县下分设南厢三都四楼共24约，湖田在南厢的南楼一带。民国三十六年（1947年）有了湖田乡的建制，1949年归第三区。人民公社时期，湖田曾拆成湖一、湖二、湖三三个大队，到1963年重新合为一个；其后乡、管理区、村民委员会的名称依次是1983年、1989年、1999年更替的。[1]
