南方村位于华城镇最南端，村史约五百多年，旧称鹤赖坝，村名因地处全镇之南而来。[1]
地名由来[edit]
据博雅地名网所载，村有约五百多年历史。相传一群仙鹤飞落潭下河滩，见河水清碧，嬉戏不肯离去，这里因此叫「鹤赖坝」。新中国成立前，这里与今黄埔村、黄金村合称南埔村，改革开放后分村；因位于华城镇最南端，定名南方。[1]
沿革与荣誉[edit]
1949年立南方乡，1958年起设南方大队，1983年改由乡政府管理，到1989年又改设管理区；1999年管理区撤销，建立南方村民委员会。[1]2023年2月评上五华县的2022年度文明村镇。；另在2019年9月被省里列为2018年「民主法治示范村（社区）」的创建单位。[1]
