水寨镇是广东省梅州市五华县的县治所在镇，位于县境东北部，在五华河与琴江河交汇的三角地带。[1][2]镇域面积83.42平方千米，2019年末户籍人口164698人，在五华县各乡镇街道中人口居首（第七次全国人口普查）。[2]2004年10月大坝镇并入后，博雅地名网记其辖6个社区、24个行政村，百度百科记2020年6月为5个社区、24个行政村。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

明代以前，此地属清化都的水寨乡；清末属太平约；1937年（民国二十六年）属第二区署。[1][2]新中国成立前夕的1949年6月，揭陆华边行政委员会在这里设立了水寨市；1950年7月，水寨镇成立，属水寨区。[2]

1954年，五华县的县治从华城迁到水寨镇。[2]镇建制在1956年5月被撤销，到1981年10月才作为乡级单位恢复；1983年10月改设区；到1987年，又改称镇。[2]大坝镇在2004年10月五华县调整部分镇区划时，被并入水寨镇。[1][2]

地理环境[edit]

水寨镇东临琴江河，北靠五华河，南面是横陂镇，西面是转水镇，东北与兴宁市新圩镇接壤。[1]博雅地名网说地名取自此地处琴江河下游、地势低洼、四周多水面。[2]

镇域面积，百度百科作83.42平方千米，博雅地名网另载约99平方千米；两者数字不同，来源均未说明口径。[1][2]

名胜古迹[edit]

联珠塔建在坝心村的珠光山上，清嘉庆十七年（1812年）始建，是一座八角形的五层楼阁式砖石塔，高22米，2020年3月13日公布列为第七批梅州市文物保护单位。[3]

五华平安寺在大沙村，位于与兴宁市刁坊镇联新村相接的分水坳，据博雅地名网介绍始建于明朝洪武年间。[2]七都村于2019年入选第六批广东省古村落。[4]
