中坑尾是这里的老地名，村名由它简化而来。1958年立中坑大队，1987年起设管理区，1999年改设村民委员会。[1]

中坑村列入广东省2018年「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位，名单于2019年9月公布。[1]
