附近有两座横卧的球形小山，原称横球，1958年谐音改为环球[2]。

历史沿革[edit]

据博雅地名网，该村的名称与建制依次为：民国时期：特亮南第五、六堡、新中国成立前：第五村民委员会、先后为初级社和高级社（1952年）、环球大队（1958年）、环球村民委员会（1987年）、环球乡政府（1989年）、环球村民委员会，沿用至今（1999年）[1]。
