赤岭村在林头镇的北部。邻近的村有林头社区、大衙社区、尾轮村、新圩村、亭梓村、文车村、那关村、林南村、下寮村、林头村、塘迳村、龙记村、乌坭村、大群村。[1]

1953年时称赤岭乡；1958年改称赤岭生产大队；1983年改称赤岭乡；1987年改称赤岭村委会；1989年改称赤岭管理区；1999年改称赤岭村委会，此后名称沿用至今。[1]
