河东街道是广东省茂名市茂南区下辖的街道，在茂名市区小东江东岸，1981年6月设立，下辖16个社区。博雅地名网记其辖区约7.6平方千米；2020年第七次全国人口普查，人口约9.51万人，在茂南区各街道和镇中居第4位。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

茂名于1959年3月建市。1981年6月，原茂名市的街道被撤销，改设5个街道，河东街道是其中之一，由市直接管辖。1985年茂南区成立，河东街道划归茂南区。[1]

街道名称的由来是：茂名建市后，以小东江为界，江西称河西，江东称河东，街道在小东江东面，因此得名。[1]

人口民族[edit]

据博雅地名网引述，2021年6月公布的第七次全国人口普查结果，河东街道人口为9.51万人，按此计算人口密度约每平方千米12513人。[1]

街道下辖的社区，名称多取自居委会所在的道路或旧居委：禾黎因黎和路，计星因计星路，迎宾因迎宾一路，竹园因竹园一街，宾南因宾南路，西粤因西粤路，高凉因高凉中路；府前因居委会在市政府前，荔红则取意于茂名盛产荔枝。[1]岭咀社区的前身是1949年的岭咀行政村，1995年转为社区居民委员会。[2]
