街道社区是吴阳镇的镇中心区，也就是旧吴川县城所在的一带，属城镇社区。[1]1952年设吴阳圩居民委员会，现名的居民委员会设于1999年，2026年1月获评「广东省第二批百千万工程典型村」。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

这里最早是1952年成立的吴阳圩居民委员会，管全部非农业人口和机关人员；1983年起改由吴阳圩镇人民政府管理，下含南门、城里、西街和黄李村。1985年镇政府改称吴阳镇人民政府，归吴阳区公所领导；1987年设街道管理区，管南门、城里、西街、中街、岭头街各居民小组；1999年定名吴阳街道居民委员会。[1]

名胜古迹[edit]

社区范围就是旧县城的城里，保存着一些与县治有关的古迹：南城门（永和门）是1938年拆城时唯一没有拆掉的城门；中山纪念堂始建于1931年，是红砖、钢筋、水泥结构的欧式两层建筑，建筑面积约420平方米；中街的极浦亭始建于南宋，现存建筑为清代祠堂式。[2][3][4]
