上郭社区在吴阳镇，辖3条自然村、5个居民小组，原为行政村，2002年改设居民委员会。社区保留着宋代读书楼和吴氏大宗祠。^[1]^[2]

历史沿革[edit]

上郭1952年设行政村，辖区一度包括那郭垌、那蒙等地；此后经历小乡（1957年）、大队（1960年）、乡（1983年）、村委会（1987年）、管理区（1989年）的变化，1999年又复设村委会，2002年改为居民委员会。^[1]

社区占地1700多亩，共678户、3400多人，既是革命老区村庄，又获吴川市文明村、广东省卫生村等称号，还是湛江市的特色文化村。^[2]

据上郭吴氏族谱，始祖吴保金原籍福建莆田，北宋熙宁年间进士，晚年谪任高凉参军，元祐七年任满后定居吴阳。其后裔吴敏吾让地建城，自己迁往今上郭；南宋嘉定年间吴川县治迁到吴阳。霞街状元林召棠曾为上郭吴氏大宗题联。^[3]上郭历代出过不少进士、举人，被称为科甲名宗。^[2]

2019年9月被列为「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）创建单位」；2026年1月获评「广东省第二批百千万工程典型村」。^[1]
