村名来自先民迁来时居住的一块小坡，村委会以所辖的坡仔村命名。[1]

坡仔原属东街山大队，1961年另立大队；其后依次改为乡（1983年）、村委会（1986年）、管理区（1990年），2000年定为村委会。[1]

村内现有1057户4929人，其中党员119人；出产外运菜和优质稻（据博雅地名网村情，年份未注明）。[1]
