沙涌社区在里水镇的东南部，东面是广州和黄岐，南面与大沥、盐步相连，广佛高速公路与佛山一环都从辖区经过[1]。

辖区分为下沙、上沙、湖洲和上、下亨田共五组村民[1]。前身是沙涌村，2011年“村改居”后设居民委员会[2]。

名称与沿革[edit]

社区得名于旧时的沙涌村：当年生产大队的队部设在下沙涌村，“沙涌”的意思是沙质的水滨[3]。

1950年为沙涌乡政府，1958年起为沙涌生产大队，1987年改设村民委员会，1989年又称管理区办事处，1999年恢复村民委员会之名；2011年村民委员会撤销，设立居民委员会[2]。

经济[edit]

据社区简介，辖区面积6.5平方千米，耕地只剩五百余亩，户籍居民四千四百余人，外来人员一万五千余人[1]。村办工业从20世纪70年代开始，起初做化工、五金和藤制品，1991年又添了加油站、纸箱厂、彩印厂和液化石油气站；辖区内企业超过300家，行业有五金、化工、家具、制鞋和制药等[1]。2008年村集体经济纯收入3938万元[1]。

荣誉[edit]

2016年12月，沙涌社区获国家民委命名，成为「第四批全国民族团结进步创建活动示范单位」；2026年3月，又被认定为「广东省第三批“百千万工程”典型村」[2]。
