下西社区位于佛山市南海区九江镇中南部，北靠新龙村，南临西江，是九江保存文物较集中的地方：探花桥、良二千石牌坊等4处是佛山市文物保护单位。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

社区名取自旧九江堡「西方南部」之意。[1]

地理环境[edit]

辖区面积4.814平方千米，新旧城区之间的洛浦路穿村而过；东面连着下北社区、城区和南方社区，隔西江与海寿村相对，西邻上西村。[2]

人口民族[edit]

博雅地名网的社区简介称，社区分7个村民小组，共有5589人；2010年农村经济总收入为11316万元，其中村级收入562万元。[2]

名胜古迹[edit]

该社区的佛山市文物保护单位共4处：探花桥、良二千石牌坊、「善应诸方」牌坊和朱九江墓。[2]

探花桥建于明万历四十七年（1619年），全长11.3米、宽1.85米，是花岗石砌的平梁桥，1994年整体迁移后基本保持原貌；桥名与明末的陈子壮有关，相传他中探花后到九江看望外祖父朱让，桥为此而建。[3]

良二千石牌坊在大稔自然村北边，是明代建筑，博雅地名网记其始建于万历二十六年（1598年）、乾隆四十三年（1778年）重修；1994年公布为南海市文物保护单位，2006年为佛山市文物保护单位，2008年为广东省文物保护单位。[4][5]

另据博雅地名网，下西村翘南约的慈悲宫内有一座山字形四柱三间的明代牌坊，通高6米，称慈悲宫牌坊。[5]

文化[edit]

社区2007年被评为广东省卫生村，2010年3月获南海区「平安村居」称号，同年12月被南海区评为「五星」农村社区。[2]
