历史沿革[edit]
据博雅地名网所载村情，南宋绍兴二年（1132年），新会白藤的胡、黄两姓分别迁到古蚕和南靖赤草，后再迁来此地；咸淳年间（1265—1275年），任姓也从新会迁来立村。村南原有一处小湖，居民住在其旁，称“湖下”，“下”与“夏”同音，转作“湖夏”。[1][2]
清代属古劳都，民国至1949年后初期属鹤山一区；1957年并乡属越塘乡，1958年入雅瑶公社。石砚、石湖、湖夏三个大队在1962年并成一个大队。名称由来一条则称，1949年石田与湖夏合组小乡，各取村名一字，得名“石湖”。[1][2]1983年称石湖乡，1986年改称村民委员会，鹤山撤县设市的1993年，此地划入沙坪控制区；到1994年9月，土地被市征收，四十岁以下村民全部转为非农业户口。2004年9月实行村改居，成立石湖社区居民委员会。[1]
地理环境与人口[edit]
辖石砚、大秧坎、山仔、鸡督、北江等10条自然村、11个村民小组，总面积5403亩。条目记居民5008人，外来者占2480人。[1]
经济[edit]
条目记，2004年社区八成劳动力已转到二、三产业，辖区内有民营、私营工商企业215家。[1]镇政府2021年的报告提到推动石湖村级工业园升级改造；2024年报告称社区旁一块5000平方米的低效工业用地已完成“工改工”，并把石湖城中村的治理列为工作重点。[3][4]石湖社区在“十二五”期间被评为全国妇联基层组织建设示范社区。[5]
