东方街道是广东省汕头市金平区下辖的街道，位于汕头市中心城区东部，辖11个社区。街道在填海造地和旧机场旧址上建成，名称来自原东方塭片区。[1][2]

历史沿革[edit]

街道所在的土地原是荒海滩，经围海造田而成。1929年国民政府在长厦、龙眼一带建成崎碌尾机场，设1300米跑道；1969年7月关闭。机场旧址于1982年至1987年间开辟为住宅区，名称「飞厦」取自「飞机场」的「飞」和附近长厦村的「厦」。[4]

1984年7月，广州军区空军将荒废多年的旧机场及其两侧土地交给汕头市使用，汕头在此兴建第一批「三三四」补贴住宅，陆续建成的街坊有榕园、松园、翠园、梅园、椰园、桂园、菊园、兰园、凤园、竹园、茶园等，菊园分南苑和西苑。1985年5月，金砂区设飞厦街道办事处。1986年10月又设龙眼街道办事处，辖地由龙厦街道的菊园、龙眼两个居委会各一部分，加上东方塭的部分片区合成，街道名来自龙眼村，原址是一片沙陇，随城市扩建逐步辟为住宅区。[2]

金砂区与公园区于1991年11月合并为金园区，飞厦、龙眼两街道随之归金园区。2001年12月，金园区设东方街道办事处，辖地以飞厦街道的大部分为主，再并入龙眼、龙厦两街道的少量区域。2003年3月金园区和升平区合并，办事处改称金平区东方街道办事处。[2]

据博雅地名网，街道辖区面积3.36平方千米，有常住居民20823户79810人（未注明年份）；维基百科载人口为67818人。[1][3][5]

辖区内的社区名称多取自住宅区或道路名，如金苑、聚龙、榕松、梅翠分别得名于所辖住宅区，金环、东龙因金环路、东龙路经过而得名，滨海因临汕头港内海而得名。[1] 浔洄社区另有老村，在浔洄山南麓，面积5.82平方千米，是村居合一的社区。[1]

街道设有3个工业区。据博雅地名网，街道有规模以上工业企业18家，涉及食品、印务、渔具、颜料、机械、珠宝、仪器、速冻果蔬等行业；该处资料称，2009年全街道工业总产值为89547万元，商业销售额为177766万元，出口额为934万美元。[3]
