新南社区在平湖街道的中心区域，东到平湖大街，西到广深铁路，南到富安路，北到平龙路，面积2.3平方千米，平湖火车站在辖区内。[1] 社区由原新南村改制而来，前身聂屋是聂姓人家在清代所建。[2]

地名与历史沿革[edit]

清代建村，最早定居的是聂姓，村名聂屋。后来因拆迁、合并，聂屋与黎公井及新园村的一部分并成新屋村，再改称新南村。社区名称即来自原新南村委会。[2]

此后，1958年10月划入红旗人民公社，1978年归平湖公社，1986年设新南村委会，2004年9月改称新南社区居民委员会，属平湖街道。[2]

人口与设施[edit]

社区的一级股份公司是新南股份合作公司，其下的6个二级股份公司为简头岭、旧圩、荔枝岭、红朱岭、新屋、新园。[1] 辖区有工厂企业70家、出租屋1371栋，佳兆业、同创新作、安居禧龙苑3个花园小区；有平湖中心学校、守真小学等学校5所（含幼儿园）。[1]

荣誉[edit]

近年得到的称号有「2024年平湖街道先进基层党组织」「2023年市健康社区」「2020年学习型社区」等；2019年9月它列入广东省2018年度「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位。[1][2]
