地名与历史沿革[edit]
新木与上木古原为同一片地方。清嘉庆年间，李姓先祖李奇益带家人从博罗横山迁来，建了木古老村；他的次子分家后，在木古河对岸另建新村，社区沿用“新木”之名。[2]
博雅地名网所载的沿革说，这里的先民是明末清初从福建辗转经博罗迁来的客家人。解放前属白鹅乡，1949年后属宝安县第三区，1958年设新木乡（当时称新木党支部），1986年成为平湖镇新木乡的村民居委会；宝安县1993年撤销后，新木与上木古分设为两个行政村；2004年设新木社区居委会，归平湖街道。[2]
人口与设施[edit]
区政府网站2025年12月的介绍给出社区占地约3.8平方千米，户籍人口约900人，常住人口约32000人；博雅地名网的旧数据为4.2平方千米，户籍630人，暂住约30000人。[1][3]
社区有幼儿园3所、小学1所、社康中心1所，另有3个开放式篮球场、2个登山公园和3个休闲公园（广场），社区服务中心面积800平方米。[1] 2011年的统计称社区有各类工厂企业177家，集体经济总收入1840万元。[3]
荣誉[edit]
2019年9月，新木列入广东省2018年度「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位；2022年3月，被认定为第一批深圳市绿色（宜居）社区。[2]
