山下村位于永定东南部，距县城45公里，距湖坑集镇7公里，处在九十九岽山脉下的奥杳盆地中。2021年11月被福建省爱卫办命名为2021年福建省卫生村。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

村名的来历是：村子在「九十九」岽山脚下，地处偏僻，故名山下。居民以林姓为主，祖上从广东大浦迁来定居。[1]

1949年前属奥东保。1958年公社化后并入大队，其后分出山下大队，1965年又并回他处；1979年恢复为山下大队。1984年建乡后为湖坑乡山下村委会，1993年改镇后更名为湖坑镇山下村民委员会。[1]

地理环境[edit]

村子属高山盆地气候，适宜种植水稻、烤烟和反季节蔬菜，近年来发展红柿与高山茶。村里的红柿多销往广东、上海、浙江等地。[1][2]
