历史沿革[edit]
村名的来历是：四面环山，中间是平缓的冲积盆谷，称下坪[1]。解放初隶大塘区。1961年3月设下坪大队，归大塘公社；1974年划归小坑林木场。1983年11月设乡政府，1986年12月改村委会，1989年改管理区，1998年12月起重又称村委会，沿用至今[1]。
交通与风貌[edit]
村子在省道S251沿线，路网把大塘镇的汤溪温泉村与小坑镇的汤湖温泉村连起来。2023年区政府网站的报道说，古时从清化通往韶州的驿道自东向西穿过下坪村；省道现今贯通丰梅、田心、山下、水口四个村民小组[2]。
人口与经济[edit]
据博雅地名网转录的村情材料（未注明年份），全村700人、187户，山林12000亩，耕地1008亩，其中水田935亩；村集体收入18.3万元，主要来自水电站承包款和镇企业办电站的利润分红，村民靠种养业、林业和外出务工谋生；小坑镇中心小学在村里设有办学点，在校生13人[1]。
