油坑村位于蕉岭县新铺镇，是镇内人口最多的村。相传村原名忧坑，常年受旱，居民为之忧愁；明万历年间（1573—1620）因盛产花生并榨油，而「忧」与「油」在方言中同音，改称油坑。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
崇祯六年（1633）称油坑乡，清代改属丰乐乡；1921年归金丰乡，称油坑里；1950年称油坑村；1952年立油坑乡；1958年为油坑生产大队；1983年属新铺区；1987年改称村委会，1990年为管理区，1999年起称油坑村委会。[1]

全村30个村民小组，837户、3130人（村情材料未注年份），面积14.07平方公里，耕地1720亩，种玉米、甘蔗、花生。[1]
