横岗村是蕉城镇南侧的一个行政村，辖21个村民小组，村情材料载有811户、2228人，总面积0.946平方千米。村名来自客家话「黄江夏」的谐音，相传清乾隆年间黄、江、夏三姓先后迁来居住。[1]
历史沿革[edit]
据村情记述，乾隆三十年（1765年）前后，黄、江、夏三姓人家迁到这里定居；到咸丰末年，约1860年，又因为战乱而迁往别处。后来的人把这个地方叫作「黄江夏」，用本地客家话念出来近似「横岗下」，于是有了横岗这个名字。[1]
民国十年（1921年）推行区乡保甲制，横岗隶第一区兴福乡；1933年改隶城东乡。新中国成立后先设横岗乡，1958年并入蕉城公社作生产大队；八十年代起交蕉城镇政府管理，几经改称，1999年定名横岗村民委员会，沿用至今。[1]
经济与荣誉[edit]
耕地约452.78亩，种植水稻、果树和蔬菜。村情材料称，当年村特色经济收入441万元，农村经济总收入1323万元。[1]
2019年9月，横岗村列入「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）创建单位名单」。[1]
