历史沿革[edit]
发源于九龙嶂的一条小河经过该村，河水清澈透明，所以叫水美。[1]
明代隶程乡县万安都，清代隶嘉应州龙文堡，1931年起隶梅县龙文乡，1950年划归梅南区蓝水乡，1958年入梅南人民公社，称水尾大队。1983年九龙与水美曾并为一个水美乡，1987年设水美管理区，1999年改称水美村委会。[3]
名胜古迹[edit]
水美星拱楼由旅居马来西亚的华侨冯福兴出资，于1915年起建，为二堂二横屋的客家民居，名称取自《论语·为政》。[2]1929年的10月，中共东江特委把东江工农红军总指挥部设在楼里，由古大存担任总指挥；11月，东江红军军事政治学校也迁到楼中。2021年12月，梅州市政府将其公布为市级文保单位（第八批）。[2]
荣誉[edit]
2017年10月获首批广东省卫生村称号，2019年12月入选第一批国家森林乡村，2026年1月又获评广东省第二批「百千万工程」典型村。[1]
