历史沿革[edit]
村子创建于清顺治元年（1644年）：苏姓先祖应啟公带领同乡南迁到此，以盐业和渔业为生，其后李姓十四世祖子捷公等人也陆续迁来聚居。[2]
清代村内建有天后宫，当地人称天后为妈，村子因此叫妈庙；“文革”期间一度改名建新，后来恢复原名。[3]
解放前，这里是惠阳县二区澳万乡的妈庙村；1953年起，属澳头区公所（八区）的妈庙乡；人民公社化后成为澳头公社的妈庙大队，1966年更名建新大队；1982年重称妈庙乡，其后依次为管理区（1985年）、妈庙村（1999年），2008年起是澳头街道的妈庙村委会。[2]
2019年9月，妈庙村列入「2018年广东省“民主法治示范村（社区）”创建单位」名单；2026年1月，获评「广东省第二批“百千万工程”典型村」。[1]
