历史沿革[edit]
木棉村原名基塘。1955年这一带分成三个合作社，黄竹坑和大、小望岗合为第一社，基塘村自成第二社，葛坑、严村、唐家合为第三社；1961年基塘乡再分出基塘、黄竹坑两个大队。1997年设基塘村民委员会，2004年更名为木棉村委会。[1]

11个自然村是菊岗、欧村、梁村、连村、杨村、李村、小望岗、大望岗、黄竹坑、左田和莘庄。村简介所记户籍人口3373人，常住人口8404人；耕地728亩，鱼塘2923亩，林地1259亩。2009年农村经济总收入7582万元，农民人均收入9152元。[1]
2026年3月，木棉村又获认定为「广东省第三批百千万工程典型村」。[1]
