历史沿革[edit]
村名与邻近的新联、新民同出一源，原是溪港发源地的三个聚落之一。[2] 博雅地名网记创村于明永乐元年（1403年），明、清到民国初年属潮阳县港头乡；此后曾称新中大队、新中乡，1986年起设村委会，其间一度称新中管理区。[2]
据博雅地名网，新中村是解放战争时期中共地下党支部所在地和游击队的根据地。[1]
经济[edit]
耕地1713.6亩，山林6790亩，工业基础薄弱，以农业为主。村办新中学校占地48亩，设幼儿园、小学部和初中部，有教职员工113名、学生2657名。[1] 2020年至2022年进入淘宝村名单。[2]
名胜古迹[edit]
港头农民协会旧址在张族祖祠，建于1927年，归入近现代重要史迹与代表性建筑一类；2014年10月10日公布为汕头市文物保护单位。[2]
