下坪社区是新城镇下辖的社区，城乡分类为村庄，为社区居民委员会所在地。村前新兴江冲积的沙丘连成一片，后开垦为耕地，俗叫坪地；坪地上分有上坪、中坪、下坪三个自然村，本村位于另两村的下游，因而得名下坪。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1949年归六区中坪乡；1950年为新兴县第六区中坪乡；1955年归车岗区中坪乡；1958年11月归红旗公社；1959年划入洞口公社，成为下坪大队；1963年4月改归车岗公社；1978年2月又归洞口公社。[1]
