古塘村在上砂镇西南部山区，离镇区10千米。村名原作石古塘：村子四周高山环绕，境内遍布石头，因此得名。[1]

历史沿革[edit]

1964年起设古塘大队，直至1983年。1984年2月，大队改设乡政府；1986年改名为古塘村民委员会，1990年划为古塘管理区，1999年又恢复为村委会，名称延续至今。[1]

2019年9月，本村上榜「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单；2021年12月获「2021年广东省卫生村」荣誉称号。[1]
