龙潭镇位于广东省揭阳市揭西县中部，镇政府驻龙潭圩，距县城约5千米。它东接南山镇，西连河婆街道，南邻坪上镇，北面依傍大北山。镇域四周是山地，中部为丘陵，西北部地势较高，东南部较低。[1][3]

历史沿革[edit]

镇名来自关山村北部的一处瀑布：当地称它为龙潭硿，贯穿镇域的溪流叫龙潭溪，故名龙潭镇。[1]

建国初期这里属揭阳县河婆区；1950年改属河江区，1957年设龙潭乡，1958年划入河婆人民公社，1961年建立龙潭人民公社。1965年起属揭西县，1983年改为龙潭区，1986年设镇。龙潭镇是揭西县的革命老区。[2][3]

龙潭镇于2024年3月获得「2023年广东省卫生乡镇」的命名，2022年1月又被列为「2021年广东省乡村治理示范乡镇」的创建对象，两项均见博雅地名网。[4]

地理环境[edit]

龙潭河发源于归善山坡，流经8个行政村后，自北向南注入榕江南河。镇内矿产较少，只有矿泉水具有开采价值。[1]

国道235线（原省道335线河棉公路）穿过镇域，汕湛高速在龙潭设有出口，可通往珠三角与汕头、揭阳。近年来镇内又修建了一批村道和自然村道。[2][3]

人口[edit]

2023年末常住人口2.52万人；2025年底总户数9650户，全年出生293人。[1][3]

教育[edit]

龙潭中学是镇里唯一的初中，2025年在校生1394人。小学共11所，在校学生1248人；公办幼儿园1所，在园幼儿121人。[3]

名胜古迹[edit]

镇内的主要景点有井下村的祥龙寺和团结村的起龙围屋。祥龙寺由揭阳市宗教局批准开放，是佛教活动场所。[3][5]

著名人物[edit]

蔡流（1924—1948），龙潭镇岭下村人。他早年在龙溪小学读书，毕业后为党送信、送情报，做过地下党的义务交通员。1945年6月，他参加了潮汕人民抗日游击队。[4]
