北惯镇坐落在阳东区中西部，那龙河中下游一带，镇政府驻北惯新圩。全镇设2个社区与13个行政村，是阳东区的一个镇级行政单位。[1]

镇内以水稻、水果、水产养殖和工业为主要产业，325国道、开阳高速公路与西部沿海高速公路穿境而过，交通便利。[2]

历史沿革[edit]

清代，如今北惯镇的地域分属阳江县平乐乡下的平地都与北惯都。[3] 1956年底这里设为北惯区，次年初撤区，另设北惯乡与那石乡。1958年，那石乡先并入北惯乡，北惯乡又与合山乡组成公社，名称几经更改，当年年底定为合山公社。[3] 1959年北惯另立公社，1961年那石也单独立社，到1963年那石重归北惯，两社合成一个北惯公社。[3] 1983年11月公社改为区，1987年2月区又改为镇。[1][3]

北惯镇归阳东区管辖的时间是1988年到1991年6月，此后自1991年7月起划归阳东县。[3] 镇下各村的建制多经过乡、大队、管理区办事处等名称，1999年先后设立村委会，沿用至今。[4]

地理环境[edit]

镇域位于那龙河中下游一带：东边与合山镇接壤，南面是雅韶镇和大沟镇，西侧与东城、塘坪两镇为邻，北部和大八镇相接。[1] 百度百科载其面积为113.22平方千米；博雅地名网的概况则称全镇总面积147.5平方千米，两者均未注年份。[1][2]

325国道、开阳高速公路与西部沿海高速公路穿越全境，三北公路、北北公路贯通多个村庄。镇区距阳江市区约13公里，距合山机场约5公里，距阳江火车站约15公里。[2] 镇政府所在的北惯新圩是现今的镇区，旧圩则位于那龙河畔的北平社区一带，旧时曾是水上运输的港口。[5]

人口民族[edit]

全镇户籍人口47587人，统计截至2019年底。[1] 博雅地名网的概况另载全镇人口四万余人，未注年份。[2]

两个社区的人口数字也出自博雅地名网：北惯社区常住人口5326余人，流动人口7000多人；北平社区现有人口1738人。两者均未注年份。[5][8]

工业企业共470家，规模以上的有45家，数字取自2019年。[1] 工业多集中在325国道沿线的工业园区，产品以五金、皮鞋、食品和塑胶制品为主。博雅地名网的概况另载工业企业300多家、规模以上企业21家，年份不详。[2]

农业方面，概况把全镇产业布局概括为三条经济带：三北公路沿线的果园，北北公路沿线的优质稻与淡水养殖，以及325国道北惯段的工业带。[2] 利屋村的村民以种植水稻、养鱼、养鹅、养猪和外出务工为主要收入来源。[6]

文化[edit]

北惯镇有划龙舟的传统。北平社区的河段是全镇主要的龙舟赛场，每年端午节十分热闹，八月十五还有民歌对唱等文艺活动。[5] 利屋村的扒龙船历史可追溯到清代，1928年曾造有一艘能坐70余名划手的长龙舟。[9]

名胜古迹[edit]

利屋利氏祖祠建于清代，为第三批阳江市文物保护单位，位于利屋村墩后村的利屋小学内。[6][9]

北惯村内有东岳庙，村中还有北惯镇革命烈士纪念碑。[7]
