历史沿革[edit]
20世纪50年代以前，北平是北惯镇的水上运输港口，曾作为旧北惯镇府的所在地。[2] 80年代，原北惯居委（圩镇大队）改名为北平社区委会。[2]
地理环境[edit]
社区地域面积约1平方千米多，东与北惯村、利屋村隔河相望，有两座桥相通；西南衔接四朗村，西北与赤光村相连。[2]
人口民族[edit]
社区现有人口1738人，居民以外出务工和做生意为主。[2]
文化[edit]
社区内有农贸市场，逢圩日十分热闹，是林屋、利屋、北惯村等村村民购物的地方，也是全镇猪苗、鹅苗的交易中心。[2]
每年八月十五，社区有组织的民歌对唱等文艺活动；每年端午节，社区河段是北惯镇主要的龙舟赛场。[2]
北平社区于2019年9月入选「2018年广东省民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位。[1]
