赤光社区属赤光镇，是镇中心区的社区，1999年设立，至今沿用。[1][2] 规划公告的镇区一栏列有「赤光居委」，本社区即在镇中心区。[3]

地名由来[edit]

此处旧称赤岗，因近圩一带的土地贫瘠，山岗上是不长草木的硬黄土。1955年冬，「岗」字改作「光」字，寓意黑暗已经过去、曙光降临。[1]

建制与荣誉[edit]

社区于1999年成立，至今沿用。[1] 2019年9月，赤光社区列入2018年广东省「民主法治示范村（社区）」创建单位名单。[1]
