田头大队于1958年人民公社成立后建立；1983年撤社设区时成田头乡，1987年成管理区，1999年起由田头村村委会管理。[1]

2023年3月，经认定为「第十二批全国“一村一品”示范村镇」，产品是牛大力。[1]
